Areolar Reduction Surgery
Your complete guide and quick links to everything you want to know!
A well-developed and normal-sized nipple/areola complex not only adds sensuality to a breast, but it is also an essential functional requirement for any future breastfeeding.
As a result of the relaxation of social norms and the increasing uncovering of the breast in magazines, fashion, photographic shoots and social media, there has been an increasing trend worldwide for corrective nipple & areolar surgery.
Although corrective nipple surgery can be performed in the privacy of our Clinic’s Operating Theatre under Local Anaesthesia only, Areola Reduction Surgery needs to be performed in a Licensed Hospital under General Anaesthesia administered by our Specialist Anaesthetist.
Enlarged Areola Reduction

The areola is the pigmented circle around the nipple. Large areolas can be inherited or may develop as a result of an increase in breast size through pregnancy or weight gain. If you’re uncomfortable with the size of your areolas, they can be reduced.
Areola Reduction Surgery is a procedure that will reduce the diameter of one or both of your areolas. It can be performed on its own, or as part of a Breast Lift, Breast Reduction or Breast Augmentation.
Please note, however, that even when performed on its own, Areolar Reduction still needs to be done in a Licensed Hospital under General Anaesthesia administered by our Specialist Anaesthetist. Hospital stay is not necessary and you can go home shortly after your procedure provided you are accompanied by a responsible adult.
Potential risks include bleeding, wound infection, numbness (usually only temporary), and adverse scarring if you are prone to such.
